Devils Win Streak Ends At 8

With a 3-2 loss at the hands of the classless flyers (It should be capitalized but they don’t deserve it) the Devils 8 game win streak and 9 game road win streak were snapped.  I would like to start by talking about why the flyers are definitely the dirtiest team in the league.  First off was Scotty Hartnell, He crashed the net about three times making contact with Brodeur while he was clearly in the blue paint twice and once while Marty was outside the crease.  This is simply unacceptable.  I know I am 100 percent biased here but there is no place in the game for making deliberate contact with a goaltender.  Secondly, is again about Hartnell, after Langenbrunner was pushed into Emery by Kimmo Timmonen at the end of the game Hartnell proceeded to jump on top of the Devils captain and start punching him.  This then led Emery to have a flashback to his days in Ottawa and start swinging himself.  He at least had some reason to since there was an opposing player sitting on top of them. However, for some reason, neither Emery nor Hartnell got a penalty.  Only Langenbrunner and Richards received penalties.  The Devils lost this game with some untimely turnovers, specifically two by Brodeur, and some poor play in their own zone in the beginning of the third period.  Overall they played a solid game and came only one goal short of tying this game.

Over the corse of their eight game win streak they had some very good play from their defense, and not just defensively but offensively as well.  The Devils defense was involved in over 22 percent of all of the Devils goals where as all of last year they only participated in about 15 percent.  Andy Greene has had the most success, and it is especially impressive since he started the season as the bubble defenseman.  The Devils are actually 12 -2 with Greene in the lineup and he is only one point away from his career high in points and we are only 1/4 the way through  the season.  If the Devils D-men keep producing the will most definitely keep winning and stay atop the eastern conference.
